Steve's Soundbytes

Merry Christmas! What a great time of the year! Ever since I was a kid delivering newspapers in my little hometown in Minnesota I have looked forward to Christmas. Many of my customers would either give me an envelope with a little money, or, even better a box of candy. There were two benefits there. I would put the presents under the tree so that on Christmas morning I would have more presents to unwrap than the rest of my family(I have 4 sisters and a brother). I guess I was pretty competitive even then. Additionally, if I put the candy in the freezer, I would have candy for the entire year to share with everyone. Great memories.

And, you know what? In a few short months, or possibly a year, what we are going through economically right now, will be just a memory. The housing market, which, locally is showing a little life, will be in much better shape and folks will be feeling a lot more upbeat when some of the programs that are being put in motion will start having an impact. To be honest, I can't say that I am in full agreement with all that the government is doing and all that the new administration is talking about doing. I'm a free market kind of guy and I firmly believe that , like my parents always said, "when you make your bed, you've got to lie in it." Thinking that we can bailout every business that has made bad decisions in the past few years is foolhardy at best and begging for disaster at worst. But, having said that, now is no time to stand on the sidelines and criticize. We've all got to pull together on this to make anything work. It's the well being of our country and our family's future we are talking about here.

Interest rates for those of you with good credit and 5% down, came down to 4.5% this past week, so for anyone thinking of buying, now is the best opportunity we've had in a while. For refinancing- go for it!

OK- the eggnog is calling so I'm am going to answer the call. I'll be back next year for whatever use you might be getting from my ramblings. I wish you all a very prosperous New Year! God bless us all and God Bless America!
